14 Kt. Gold Carved Cameo Bracelet

In Victorian times, photographs were not readily available and it was considered an honor to have a shell carved in your likeness. Most of these miniature relief sculptures were done by hand, in Italy. Shell cameo carvings, 8 in all, adorn this bracelet, each set within a bezel of 14 karat yellow gold, and the cameos linked to one another with gold links. Often young, wealthy women had likenesses carved of themselves, and their friends to place in a bracelet such as this. The hairstyles and faces differ on this bracelet, but all are graceful and beautifully carved. It weighs 25 grams, and measures 7 inches long. The individual cameos measure 1 1/8 inches high, by 13/16 inches wide including their fine gold bezels. The cameo carvings are not damaged by cracks or any other imperfections, and remain exactly as they were originally carved.
