Rare Bilston Enameled Box Ca.1780
I loved the quality of this little patch box. There are no "stops" on the back hinge - the stops would be a mark of a later reproduction box. This one in deep blue, with a floral design on top in pink and white, some gold. More flowers surround the central flower.
There is an old chip in the enamel on the front, another near the base on the rear. The interior mirror is, of course, cracked. (Another mark of an old box. One thing the "stops" added about a hundred years later do is keep the box from being opened too far, and cracking the mirror.) The interior enamel is white, with some crazing (and smells of peppermint). This box dates around 1780.
