Agate Brush Washer circa 1860

Delicate vines of milky white hard stone coil around the exterior of this brilliantly carved brush washer. They were obviously carved with great skill. Leaves and tendrils in rich reddish brown make use of the colorings within the stone itself, the mark of a true carving artist. The large central lotus leaf curls its edges upward to hold the water in its shallow bowl, while smaller leaves decorate the vine which encircles it.

Examine the photographs carefully as the beauty of this carving is dazzling. It is circa 1860. It measures 5 3/4 inches long approximately by 3 5/8 inches at its widest point. It stands 1 1/4 inches high.
