Late Meiji Period Miniature Satsuma Vase
This miniature Satsuma earthenware vase is wonderfully hand painted.
The first reserve depicts two scholars seated at the foot of a teacher, who is reading from a scroll. On the reverse side, it is decorated in the reserve with flowers and butterflies. Golden bamboo decorates the panels between the reserves, while classic gold chrysanthemum and diapers adorn the top. This vase is Meiji period, circa 1890. It is signed in gold paint on a black reserve on the base.
This depressed baluster shape, and the paint condition is good. However there are two tiny rim flakes shown in photographs. The Satsuma glaze is finely crackled as would be desirable, to reflect light. It measures a total of 3 1/2 inches high.
