Signed Satsuma Double Gourd Vase with Dark Blue Ground

This Satsuma double gourd vase is just 3 5/8" tall, a very desirable size as items under 5 inches are usually highly prized. It is decorated in the deep cobalt blue color developed in the late Meiji period (around 1890) with gold leaves and fauna. The reserves are surrounded with gold borders, with a creamy crackle glazed, and decorated with Bijin, Warriors, Scholars and Children. Gold accents are placed on each figure, from the deep red and blue kimono to the padding of the warriors costumes. In the background of the warriors, Mt. Fuji. The gathered Bijin and children are depicted in front of shoji screens, a scholar sits at a writing table. There are no chips, cracks, damages. The vase is signed on the base.
